Hey beautiful souls. One of the parts of my art journey is sharing and selling my paintings. I did my first Makers Market this week. It was an interesting experience. It did not go very well with regards to selling. In fact, I felt pretty much exhausted after it. But in spite of that I also felt more confident afterwards. That confidence comes from my intention of sharing and getting feedback from people.
I also have started to work on my seaside paintings which were inspired by our recent trip to the beach.

Nothing seems to be better and more relaxing these days than outdoor time and appreciating the gifts of nature.
Markets are really hard, and exhausting. Glad you gave it a try. Sometmes it's the right place and time, that simple. xox
ReplyDeleteGlad that you didn't get discouraged from the selling part of the market. The first art fair I did I sold nothing! It can be very exhausting and sometimes people can say the funniest things. At one art fair people kept coming into my tent and exclaiming over the mirror I had hung so people could try on jewelry and scarves. No, the mirror is not for sale and no, I did not make it, but I made all these other beautiful things in this tent...

Doing shows is exhausting. We expends so much energy. I am sorry you didn't make many sales. The next one will be better. Your art is amazing and it is just getting into the right shows.
ReplyDeleteI started doing shows in 1979 and up until about 5 or 6 years ago made a good living at it. You have a beautiful selection of art and it is a matter of doing shows and getting your name out there.

ReplyDeleteI've heard it's a tough market out there for artists, which is why I prefer selling online. People are looking for dirt cheap bargains at art fairs, from what I've been told, and that doesn't go hand-in-hand with the hard work involved with making artwork. Not to mention all the setting up, and taking down, travel expense to get there, and table or booth rent. We can't give our work away or we'd be simply foolish. I hope you have better luck next time. Your work is beautiful, and you shouldn't have any trouble selling it to the right crowd.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad your soul got fed with confidence. Sorry it was so tiring...I have heard that from several artist friends. A lot of work, and long days. Even though ` you are is desirable and beautiful artist..sometimes it's hit or miss. Each person with their own flavour none of us the same! Don't be discouraged!!

Your paintings are beautiful and atmospheric. It is quite difficult to sell even the best of paintings, good luck. I like the Portobello beach very much too.

ReplyDeleteI can totally understand. I tried several shows at great expense & time and one or two sales also. I like eBay, but then you have to be careful to think about shipping costs. I love Portobello Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYou are very right not to be discouraged by your performance at the market. Some markets are good and some are not - and more frustrating still, some are good some years, and then not good others. It exhausts me just thinking about it, honestly. Your perseverance will pay off, though!

ReplyDeletePortobello Sunday is beautiful! I tried a market years ago and sold some art work but found the experience exhausting;I prefer selling on line. As for doing the art market, it all depends on the customers it draws in, not your work. I say, if your up for it, do it again. Have a great weekend Aga.

The sky on your portobello seascape is beautiful Aga, so delicately done, The market does sound hard work, I have thought about it but never tried, perhaps it would be better in the summer when the weather warms up?

It's about getting out and getting known where you are I guess. I'm far away from that point as yet.
I think it takes courage to get out there and it is quite hard work to do it!

ReplyDeleteNow that I have started sketching and looking around, I have been thinking about the beauty of nature and how vast and varied natural experiences span. Your photo of tree tops looks like a lace pattern but even more beautiful. Selling at a market seems like a huge expenditure of energy. So far I have stayed away but it also is a wonderful way to be out and sharing your work with others.
ReplyDeleteMarkets can be hit and miss, especially creative ones. I've done two, selling hand made bread. The first one I sold out in 2 hours, the second I ended up giving it away (and hadn't even made as much to start with).

Yes, markets can be exhausting. But you learn things from them, and that's always good to build experience. Love your paintings!
